About our Soaps

Why handmade soaps? Soaps bought at the grocery store are mass produced bars that most often contain detergents, dyes, and other chemicals that are becoming less and less favored by the public. Detergents and chemical may be fine for cleaning floors and clothes but is this what we really want to use to wash our body or our children?Probably not. Handmade soaps maintain the natural glycerin that is absent in the commercial bars as well as use natural oils, butters and liquids to pamper and nourish your skin.

The process: We choose to use the old fashioned cold process method of soapmaking that combines the oils and butters with the water or liquid and the lye in a process that when gently mixed thickens into a batter type consistancy that is then put in molds to harden. After the soap remains in the molds for 12-24 hrs. it is unmolded and cut and left to cure for a minimum of 6 weeks. After the initial saponification process the lye is no longer present in the soap, it is the lye combined with the oils that produces soap. We use a carefully planned recipe that allows for all lye to be saponified with oils and leaves some extra oil present to help moisturize your skin and offer that luxury feel that only handmade soap can provide. One added benefit is that during the soap making process natural glycerin is formed and becomes part of the soap making it a true luxury.

The recipe: We use Olive oil, Coconut oil, Palm oil, Palm kernel oil, Castor oil, Rice bran oil, Sunflower oil & either Shea butter or Cocoa butter or both in our bars. We then add other specialty oils, botanicals, and liquids such as goatsmilk, herbal teas, aloe vera juice, carrot juice, etc and raw honey, fragrances or essential oils, clays, or exfolients and any colorants necessary to the base to produce each unique bar. Each recipe will vary in color and design depending on how the soapmaker (me) feels that day. We strive to use only natural ingredients in our soap but do add premium fragrance oils and approved colorants to some soaps to provide you with many choices. If you desire a natural bar then look at our "natural" soap selection. We also have our all natural Vegan Soaps. These natural soaps contains pure vegetable oils & butters with spring water, coconut milk or aloe juice. We chose to scent our natural vegan soaps with true essential oils. If you wish to obtain a ingredient list for a particular bar of soap just contact us with your request and we will e-mail you the listing.

Special Requests: We are happy to do special requests for our customers needs. Just let us know what you need and we will be happy to provide you with a quote. Most times the price is the same as our stock soaps unless extra "luxury oils" or expensive essential oils are used. If you have a particular concern or need feel free to contact us for recommendations. All special orders will be for full logs only and will require 6 weeks to make and cure.

Do you offer liquid soap? We are currently working on our liquid soap recipe and I fully expect liquid all natural soap to be available by early summer 2008. Creating a recipe and perfecting it is very important to us so we are able to offer you an alternative to synthetic liquid hand soap. We will be sure to update the site when this is available.
